New Day Bakery is the kind of vaguely hippie-ish, farm-fresh cafe that thrives in places in Eugene; as a bonus, they have a wonderful bakery that supplies bread to almost all the local markets in town (and some chains besides). And it has a beautiful, open, sun-filled room to eat in, which is my favorite thing about it. […] I got french toast with eggs on the side, and the eggs were hands-down the best part of anything. They tasted like they’d been pulled from a hen house that morning, and this being Eugene (and the Whitaker) that is totally possible. They were so, so fresh and rich in flavor.

They have a nice patio for sunny weather, very good sandwiches and they do a nice job with omelettes and scrambles… or get a box of cookies to go that are the same price and ten times better than Safeway.

This cozy place is a Whiteaker neighborhood gem. I’m a big fan of the bakery, the soups, the burgers, Bill & his staff, but most importantly the pizza dough. There’s no better in town, and you can even get it in select stores, like Market of Choice. The ambiance is perfect year-round. There’s a piano anyone can tinker on. Please don’t if you play poorly. Nobody likes crappy piano players. The place is surprisingly romantic in a hipster kind of way. They have great beer, local organic products, and it always smells good. New Day just simply makes me feel good! Oh, and Sam Bonds Garage is next door, so hop from one patio to another and enjoy yourself a scotch & rocks after you get your New Day fill…….

Here’s the thing: it’s been 4 days and I can’t stop thinking about the Grilled Tempeh sandwich I had here. My BF kinda sorta insisted we go here for that particular item and since I was visiting from out of town I figured he would know the haps. Anyway I ordered my sandwich blindly, trusting said BF all the way. Then I re-read the menu and realized there was no mayo or sauce or any other such condiment on the sandwich I ordered. For a moment I was skeptical. And then the counter girl/server brought this delight to our table and after the first bite I was hooked. I keep asking myself (as well as the BF): “Why/how is it so good?” It’s so basic: grilled tempeh, house-made carrot relish, red leaf lettuce and tomato all served on what is some of the freshest, most wonderful wheat bread I have ever eaten. All we can figure is that it is a fresh, light meal and it is done exceptionally well. Oh and did I mention they serve beer? This girl is SOLD! I found the service to be friendly and prompt. So there’s that. I thought maybe writing about this sandwich would be cathartic in purging my never-ending cravings. Turns out I want one more than ever. Go figure.

My go-to place in Eugene for a healthy, mellow and inexpensive lunch. They have a combo burrito made to order with a long list of fillings that is my favorite. Their menu is pretty wide ranging, and safe to bring folks with much different tastes(soups, pastas, sandwiches, burritos, pizzas…). Also, their desserts are delicious and super cheap(flan, cheesecakes, cakes, cupcakes, …). I like this place! Their outdoor seating is nice too.

I can only rate this on their baked goods I purchased at the Farmer’s Mkt. Almond danish: Fresh, soft, delicious. Homemade oreo type cookie: Basically two chocolate crinkle cookies together with oreo type filling in between. Cookies were great, but just too sweet for me with the sweet filling. Carrot cake sandwich cookies: Excellent. Two carrot cake cookies with filling in between. The cookies were soft with lots of texture, big chunks of walnuts. Yum!

Really nice place, wide open space and nice outdoor seating. Here with the girlfriend for breakfast, has an overall nice feel. Barista didn’t know how to make a london fog but was happy to make one with our advice. Almond bear claw is amazing. They have day old pastry’s for rather cheap, especially considering the quality (2.50 for 3 chocolate filled croissants).
